The Elliptical: Tools and Tips You Might Not Be Aware Of

IMG_3672.jpg

Are you thinking about switching up your exercise routine in the New Year? Now that is a great idea! Your body adapts to physical activity you do routinely, so if you are a treadmill junky, shock your body and try something else. If you are putting the time in, you might as well keep your body interested. A bored body doesn't have to work that hard!

The elliptical machine is a great choice. You are able to work both your upper body and your lower body at the same time. The movable handles make it easy to pump your arms which not only helps with muscle tone, but will get your heart rate up as well.

The elliptical is a smart choice for those with knee, back or foot problems because the sliding ramps allow your legs to work intensely in a weightbearing activity without high impact. You can heighten the intensity and switch up the body position by adjusting the level of the ramps.

Most people don't think to switch directions. When you pedal forwards you work your hamstrings, glutes and calves. When you pedal backwards you feel more intensity on the quadriceps. If you are a little gun-shy to use a new piece of equipment, ask a trainer to help you out. That is what they are there for!

Best wishes to a new improved, body enhancing workout in the New Year!
